BC Credit Course

This class is designed to help students engage with important issues in an academic, intellectual, and, above all, respectful manner. It will support students of all levels to learn how to create well-informed opinions, argue them, and then revise those opinions so as to accommodate new evidence, ideas, and revelations. Moreover, learners will share their new-found conceptions with others through a variety of media including, speaking, writing, presenting, and artwork. This class will help to prepare students for life in a democratic society so that they can be engaged and active citizens, thinking deeply about information and learning. It will also equip them with the problem solving and adaptational skills so needful in the modern workplace. Topics covered during this class are democracies and autocracies, Canadian and American politics, international relations such as the rise of China, social media and its influence on social and political discourse, basic political philosophies like utilitarianism, and more.
